The hero of the Kirby video game series, owned by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory, Kirby first appeared in Kirby's Dream Land (1992), a platform game for the Game Boy. He was originally a fictional character created by Japanese video game designer Masahiro Sakurai for the game's early development.
